Art Therapy
Art has always been a therapeutic outlet for our girls. Two popular artists Chathurika Jayani and Gayan Prageeth were invited to curate a series of art workshops at Shilpa. The girls thoroughly enjoyed exploring new drawing techniques and the use of multimedia in modern art. The workshops are ongoing with a graduating art exhibition planned for the future.
Christmas Bazaar Fundraising
Last Christmas the Shilpa trustees set up a stall at the Woman’s International Christmas sale. It featured artworks and greeting cards handmade by the Shilpa girls. The busy market gave us an opportunity to connect with the community about our charity.
Temple Yard Sale
Shilpa donors come together annually to contribute pre-loved clothes, homewares and toys to sell at a bargain at the local temple. We are able to raise substantial funds through this event that is popular among the neighboring communities.
Calendar Events
Our girls are taught to respect the multicultural society we live in. To that end, they look forward to hosting cultural celebrations at Shilpa. We see them embrace their organizing responsibilities and their creativity and musical talents shine at these colorful events.
Monthly Project
Every month a trustee is assigned to come up with a project so the girls can learn something new or engage with their interests such as art or music or cookery. Even simple pleasures like watching a movie together or enjoying a meal goes a long way to building precious ties between the Shilpa family.
